More often than not, whether on the job or writing articles, I will be asked what certain terms mean, and I thought I would take the time now in this piece to go over some of them for those who want to know. There are, to be sure, many different words and job descriptions in the locksmith industry and there will be many who want to have a finer understanding about them. The following definitions will be something that many will like, but it will also be something that comes in handy when the time comes that you need locksmith assistance in Indianapolis. One of the more curious terms is master key.

You can easily find many different articles and information about a master key, which is a key working on many locks and while one key works for each individual lock, the master key is set to work on all of them in a given place. There are a lot of people who feel that a master key is a skeleton key and due to this it seems logical to add the definition of one of them so to clear up any confusion. Cut thin to bypass the wards in a warded lock, the skeleton key is actually a warded lock key, and it is also a bit key that simply means it has one or more bits cut in to the key.Due to the sound of it access control system is a very misunderstood term. It is actually pretty easy to get when you look at it like this, let’s say you have an Indianapolis business and the best way to control security is to be able to have a system in place that lets only those that can be in a place, be able to enter. This will be something you can do with an access control system which allows those who have the appropriate clearance, or permission, to enter and sometimes, even exit. An access control system can range in security level from low to high with locks, biometrics such as finger prints and eye scans, keyless entry and CCTV.

master keyA popular item in use frequently for its effectiveness and low cost is called a strike plate, and Indianapolis locksmiths are keen to suggest these. The strike will strengthen a doors defenses and has a bolt which is installed in the jamb or floor and is extremely effective in stopping the number method of forced entry, kicks. Strike plates are going to be a benefit for anyone needing commercial or residential, cost friendly and effective increased security.VATS and Pats are words, actually anagrams, that will not sounds familiar to most, unless they have one. The vehicle anti theft system is a common install on the more current trucks and cars of today in Indianapolis and other cities, and can also be called a PASS, which is a  personalized automotive security system, and the other security system is a PATS, which means passive anti theft system. There is a lot of info about these systems and you can also simply consult your automobiles manual.

A good question is, what does being protected mean? When you come back to your San Jose home it is obvious that the protection you use there are the locks you have in your home. At work, or your business, you have doors that lock, access control systems, fire alarms and doors and more. In cars and trucks there are locks to keep people out and there is also an alarm that is in place if any attention needs to be brought to the vehicle.

protectedEach of these are there to do one thing, to protect you. Home is the one place you should always feel protected. Every locksmith in San Jose can tell you that you need to take care of this and this will not only apply to the locks, but the doors that are being used. A person attempting to break in to your place is going to try and bypass a lock and and this will allow them to get into the door. It is of great import to you to know that what you are using for protection at home is going to work and if you want to know, your best bet is to speak to a San Jose locksmith. When a person is at work they need to know that they are protected, as well. Access control is not the only thing you are going to look for with protection at the office. You want to make sure that your work and private information is always secure. That if there is a fire there are alarms and doors in place to make sure everyone is alerted and led to safety. And of course, it is a necessity to be able to keep those without proper access from getting inside to areas and building they aren’t supposed to be so you can avoid any problems, theft or other dangerous problems.

There are many who do not see the locking mechanisms for their car or truck as being protection, and they are. The obvious use of it is to deter theft when the auto is not in use, however, this is also a very protective system when you are in it or out of it. There might be a time when an attacker is trying to get at a person in a car and without those locks, they can, and with remote alarm ability, this can alert others to a problem. Everything that is put in to the locks of a vehicle are in place to guard against other circumstances beyond theft that can put you in jeopardy.A great many people assume they are properly protected, but is this true? The locksmith knows that protection can be compromised if not watched out for. Everyone you know from loved ones to the people you work with should feel safe and with just a little notice about what is around you, you can see where you stand. It’s a serious thing and should be asked, are you protected? And it is something that everyone should consider.

DALLAS — The 123rd State Fair of Texas opens its doors at 10 a.m. Friday. Vendors and fair officials were working at a fever pitch Thursday to make sure everything is ready for visitors.

One of the newest and most spectacular attractions this year is the Pirates of the Caribbean dive show, which involves a very high diving platform and a very shallow round tank.

The main stage performances kick off Friday night with "American Idol" finalist Jason Castro. Other highlights include 38 Special on Sunday; En Vogue on Oct. 3; Miranda Lambert on Oct. 17; and The Commodores on Oct. 18.

Oprah Winfrey will also be taping her popular TV show at the fair on Oct. 12.

Want some thrills? There will be four new rides on the Midway this fall.

And when hunger strikes, Deep Fried Butter and Deep Fried Peaches and Cream highlight the new foods to be available.

Getting to the fair is also easier. "The big news this year, of course, is the arrival of DART light rail at the State Fair of Texas," said fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding. "Fairgoers have the option of two stations; we have one at the front of the fair and the other at Martin Luther King."

Former first lady Laura Bush will be on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning at 10 o'clock.

The traditional State Fair of Texas Parade through downtown Dallas will follow at noon. The Main Street route begins at Houston Street and ends in Deep Ellum. Traffic on cross streets will be delayed during the parade until 1:30 p.m.

DALLAS — Dallas police have released surveillance video hoping it will lead to the arrest of two men involved in last week's fatal shooting of an armored car security guard.

The suspects are believed to have been involved in at least four bank robberies in North Texas since February.

In a June 13 holdup at a Wachovia Bank branch, a bearded Hispanic man wearing a black sweatshirt, sunglasses, and a distinctive tan baseball cap turned sideways can clearly be seen brandishing a handgun, terrorizing employees and customers who dropped to the floor.

A woman in the background covers the body of a small child with her body as the gunman demands cash from a teller.

Police Lt. Craig Miller said detectives really want to catch these men. "I think the individuals involved really have very little regard for anybody," Miller said. "When you look at the situation from the June 13 offense where a small child is in a carrier sitting on the floor and he haphazardly waved that weapon at not only the people inside of the bank and the bank employees, but the people on the ground and certainly in the direction of the child."

Another surveillance tape from the scene of Friday's fatal shooting of Brinks guard Cresencio Borquez shows a white sedan with a moonroof that was used as a getaway car.

The reward for information leading to the capture and prosecution of the two suspects has been increased from $50,000 to $75,000. Call Dallas police or your local police agency if you can help.

A Denver airport shuttle bus driver at the center of a massive counterterrorism probe has been indicted in Brooklyn on charges of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, while the Queens imam who allegedly tipped him off to the federal investigation was freed on bail, officials said.|

Najibullah Zazi, an Afghanistan-born immigrant and former resident of Queens, was previously charged with lying to the government during a criminal investigation.  The additional charges, which specify Zazi may have been planning to use a bomb in the plot, were unsealed today in New York's Eastern Disctrict Court.

Read the Indictment

Zazi had been buying chemicals used to make triacetone triperoxide (TATP), the explosive used in the 2005 London train bombings and by foiled shoe bomber Richard Reid in 2001, according to a government detention motion.

While in Colorado, Zazi and unidentified others bought "unusually large quantities" this summer of common household products used to make TATP -- hydrogen peroxide and acetone, an ingredient in nail polish remover, the document said.

Zazi apparently tried to heat the components inside an Aurora, Colo., hotel room on Aug. 28, the same day he bought a dozen 32-ounce bottles of "Ms K Liquid 40 Volume" a hydrogen peroxide based product, the document suggests.

On Sept. 6 and 7, just days before arriving in New York City, he checked into the same hotel room where FBI tests later found acetone residue in the vent above the hotel room's stove, according to the detention memo.

On those days, he had urgent communications with another person "seeking to correct mixtures of ingredients to make explosives," the document said.

He had also searched on the Internet for home improvement stores in Flushing that sold a third component of TATP -- muriactic acid, prosecutors said.

“The indictment alleges that Najibullah Zazi conspired with others to use explosive devices against persons or property in the United States,” said Attorney General Eric Holder.  “We are investigating a wide range of leads related to this alleged conspiracy, and we will continue to work around the clock to ensure that anyone involved is brought to justice. We believe any imminent threat arising from this case has been disrupted, but as always, we remind the American public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement," he said.

Zazi, 24, has admitted he received weapons training from al Qaida in Pakistan. He is at the center of what federal officials said could be a plot to blow up subways or other targets in New York City.  He and his father were arrested last week in Denver.  Queens imam Ahmad Wais Afzali, 37, was arrested in New York and also charged with lying to the government during the terror probe.

Afzali was back in court today for a detention hearing, and he was released on a $1.5 million bond secured by his father's home. He will be required to submit to electronic monitoring and he can visit his mosque.

Federal officials said  Zazi drove from Denver to New York on Sept. 9 and a search found him in possession of a bomb-making manual, batteries, a scale, and other equipment that could be used to make explosives.

A joint terrorism task force is continuing to canvas the New York City area to see if chemicals or bomb making equipment might be stored in our area, the sources told NBC New York.

The FBI and NYPD are downplaying questions about whether the case was jeopardized and a series of raids in Flushing last week were forced to go early because of the alleged double cross by the Queens imam.  While some federal officials are angry with the NYPD, sources said that top officials believe the blame rests with the informant.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg was careful to praise both sides for their work on the case, noting the seriousness of the threat against the country.

"It was not an accident that FBI and NYPD were devoting a lot of resources," Bloomberg said of the probe. "What happened here is that the cooperation between two agencies resulted in the indictment of people who were planning to kill a lot of people."

"There doesn't seem to be a sense that they made a mistake," Bloomberg added, "but even if they did we won't know until later on."

The New York Police Department has removed a senior official from one of its two sometimes competing antiterrorism units, after it played a role in disrupting a sensitive federal terrorism investigation, current and former police officials told the New York Times.

Federal officials have also issued security bulletins to police around the nation about terrorists' desire to attack stadiums, entertainment complexes and hotels  -- while the MTA has boosted security on the city's subway system and commuter trains at "key locations."

In two bulletins sent to police departments Monday, officials said they know of no specific plots against such sites, but urged law enforcement and private companies to be vigilant. These two bulletins followed on the heels of a similar warning about the vulnerabilities of mass transit systems.

The bulletin on stadiums notes that an al-Qaida training manual specifically lists "blasting and destroying the places of amusement, immorality, and sin... and attacking vital economic centers" as desired targets of the global terror network.

A joint statement from DHS and FBI said while the agencies "have no information regarding the timing, location or target of any planned attack, we believe it is prudent to raise the security awareness of our local law enforcement partners regarding the targets and tactics of previous terrorist activity."

Officials said during questioning, Zazi at one point claimed that he was acting alone and had thought about targeting a large box-store retailer located outside of New York. But investigators say they strongly believe those statements were lies.

UNIVERSITY PARK — University Park police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide Thursay morning.

The bodies of Roscoe Halcomb, 66, and Mary Halcomb, 59, were discovered Wednesday evening after a relative had not heard from the couple in a few days and went to check on them, police said.

Their bodies were discovered in a home in the 4000 block of Purdue Street about 10 p.m. Both suffered gunshot wounds, police said.

Neighbor Mikee Smythe said she had dog sat for the Halcombs and that the couple had brought her a pie when she and her family first moved into the neighborhood two years ago.

Smythe said Roscoe Halcomb went by the name "Spud" and that he dealt in antiquities and traveled frequently. She said Mary Halcomb worked in the jewelry business.

Smythe said she heard Roscoe Halcomb last night and that her young daughter later saw flashing lights outside their home as police and medical crews arrived.
